Inscribed: Front and back with a complementary but different pattern of scrolling leaves and vines typical of Renaissance decoration and mounted with a fresh water pearl. The shape of each art of the cross is in a dainty pattee shape, where the arms of the cross flare outward slightly. The original cross, from which this design was created, dates to the 16th century and is now in the collection of the British Museum.
